CEREMONIES FROM THE HEART
Spiritual, Civil, Interfaith, Religious,
Non-Religious Ceremonies
About Me
At the age of 15 I
discovered Kahil Gibran’s book “The
Prophet” followed by “The
Autobiography of A Yogi” by Parmahansa Yogananda and, as a result of reading the
perennial wisdom of these holy men, had a major sort of “spiritual epiphany.”
This experience kindled a life long passion in me for understanding the
interconnectedness of all humanity, religious paths, spirituality, quantum
physics, and the true nature of reality, philosophy & mysticism.
From 2001-2003 I
attended the New Seminary
in New York City. After graduation in 2003 I was ordained as an
Interfaith Minister by The New Seminary at The Cathedral of St. John The
Divine. My reasons for attending seminary were, at the time, purely for my own
personal journey and when I was ordained in 2003 I really had no specific plans
for a ministry beyond being a ”light” and a helping hand to others and simply
continuing my own personal spiritual journey. And, I certainly had no
plans of ever making a career out of being a minister. But, there is an adage
that says: "Do what you love and money will follow." And, in looking
back now, it is clear that this is exactly what happened to me. Over the
ensuing months after I was ordained a new career began to miraculously unfold: a career
as an interfaith minister that has grown into a full time vocation allowing me
to truly follow my heart & my passions. Over the past 6 years I has had the
privilege of working with hundreds of couples coming from an incredible array
of religious, spiritual, ethnic and international backgrounds. My present day
ministry includes100 + ceremonies a year: wedding, baby christenings, renewal
of vow ceremonies, memorial and funeral services as well counseling services
which includes premarital counseling and phobia counseling for people suffering
from all types of phobias.
From 1983 – 1990 I
worked as a Phobia Counselor at The White Plains Hospital Phobia &
Anxiety Treatment Center but
due to necessity and career changes had to resign for many years. In 2008 I was
able once again joined the staff at the Phobia & Anxiety Treatment Center.
In conjunction with being on staff at The White Plains Hospital, I also work
privately with clients suffering from phobias.
I embrace all faiths,
spiritual paths, cultures, races & sexual orientations of the world.
"I believe all beings
areinnately imbued with a spark of Divinity, yet
many are burdened by the myriad of negative messages projected into us by the
world. As a result so many go through their lives feeling secretly inadequate,
unworthy and alone. I seek to help others connect to their innate divinity with
compassion & forgiveness for themselves and others.”
“However much he
overlooks the masterpiece in him and sees only a frame of darkness, it is still
your only function to behold in him what he sees not….” - From “A Course in
Miracles”.
Kindness, caring,
compassion are of utmost importance to me. I have the ability/gift of
facilitating harmony and understanding in difficult family situations that can
often create distress and tension in what should be great and joyous
celebrations of love. I have the unique ability of creating harmony,
particularly in “interfaith/intercultural situations by combining elements from
a couple’s religious/spiritual/cultural backgrounds and honoring the beliefs of
both families. I am always happy to work with couples in premarital counseling
with the goal of facilitating healing and understanding with the couple and
amongst family members.
“All couples and
weddings a special to me: from the simple civil ceremony to the elegant and
extravagant, my goal with each couple is to help them design meaningful
ceremony that reflects their beliefs in love, life, spirit and family. Each
couple has a unique love story and their own special magical alchemy. I seek to
discover this magic and express it through their ceremony of marriage.”
The Meaning of
Interfaith
The New
Seminary "Interfaith" is a spiritual philosophy, which
honors and values the fundamental beauty and wisdom in ALL religious
traditions. We believe that there are many paths to God, and that all are valid
and worthy of respect. God created humans in an amazing variety - we come in all
sizes, shapes and colors and with different needs and tastes. Some people will
be best nourished by one type of food while others will thrive best on
something different. So, too, will different people be nourished spiritually by
different traditions. We also believe that it is not the form of religious
practice that is important, but the spiritual intent that underlies it. We
recognize that God is in all things and in ALL people.
Interfaith strives to promote true respect for all the diverse paths to God. Respect is different from tolerance for tolerance implies merely putting up with something you find disagreeable, whereas respect involves valuing and appreciating something for it own true nature. This does NOT mean that we advocate blending all religions into one great big super-religion.
The motto of The New Seminary is "Never instead of
....Always in addition to." Many
of the people in Interfaith are devout followers of a particular path. We have
ordained ministers, priests, rabbis, Buddhist monks and nuns, just to name a
few. There are also people who have no formally designated path.
In short, the philosophy of Interfaith
is best summed up in the Hindu saying 'For those in whom Love dwells, all the
world is one family."
